            clogged drain

Do you have a clogged drain?

Do you have a clogged drain? It is essential to take action fast. Clogged drains can quickly go from being an annoyance to causing flooding, pest infestations, mold, and other health issues.

Plumbing dates back to 3000 BCE, when the Indus Valley civilization used pipes to clean waste from drains. Despite advances to plumbing fixtures, clogged drains can still happen for various reasons and are among the most common home plumbing issues. Sink drains often clog due to mineral or food buildup, hair, dirt, and other blockages. But, what can you do to solve the issue? Read on to learn how to properly deal with clogged pipes in your kitchen or bathroom sinks.

            Start With Hot Water

Start with pouring boiling water down your drain. It can be an effective method to unclog a kitchen or bathroom sink if you know it is blocked by organic matter.

Skip this step if you know that the sink is blocked with plastic or other items. You can easily pour hot water down metal pipes. Hot water can do more harm than good if you have PVC pipes or a porcelain sink.

            Use a Homemade Solution

Several natural homemade solutions can help keep your pipes flowing. You can pour a cup of baking soda and then a cup of water or vinegar solution down the drain. Wait around five to ten minutes, so the solution begins bubbling, loosening the drain clog.

You can then pour hot water down the drain again. Homemade solutions such as baking soda and vinegar are safe to use compared to some chemical solutions.

            Try a Plunger or Snake

If standing water has begun to make a pool in your clogged sink, a plunger can help. We suggest you keep a separate plunger for plumbing issues in sinks and other non-toilet home areas. If you have a double sink, plug the other side to prevent water from making its way through this way.

Go slow, so you do not bring more food and water into your sink. You can also use a snake, also known as a drain auger.

A drain auger can help remove debris and unclog the sink. If you do not have a snake or plunger, then it is time to call a plumber.

            Call A Plumber

Sometimes clogged drains are due to clogged pipes, your garbage disposal, or other plumbing issues that require professional plumbing services. It is time to call a plumber if you cannot unclog the drain, there is an unpleasant scent, or multiple drains are clogging. Take action fast before the problem escalates.

Hiring a Plumber You Can Trust

Usually, you can resolve clogged drains in your kitchen or bathroom sinks with ease. However, do not put off plumbing issues that need professional plumbing services. They have the right expertise, equipment, and knowledge to resolve home plumbing problems safely.
