Winter Plumbing Problems? We’ve Got You Covered!
January 31, 2024Now Hiring HVAC Tech
March 28, 2024At Academy Plumbing, we understand that weather conditions can have a significant impact on your home, particularly when it comes to your appliances. Lately, Albuquerque has been experiencing high winds, and you may be surprised at how these conditions can affect the most crucial systems in your home.
One of the primary appliances at risk during windy conditions is your stove and water heater. Strong winds have the potential to blow out the pilot lights on these appliances. If you’ve noticed that your hot water isn’t as consistent as it should be or your stove isn’t functioning correctly, the wind could be the culprit.
Notably, the flame within your appliances consumes the oxygen around it. Over time, in an enclosed space, the available oxygen can be depleted, leading to a weak or extinguished pilot light. This is why it’s standard code to place water heaters in the garage – a location that allows for a constant source of fresh air.
However, even in the garage, persistent windy conditions can disrupt the oxygen flow and make your pilot light go out more easily. Therefore, during and after windy conditions, we recommend checking your appliances’ pilot lights to ensure they are still lit and functioning properly.
Remember, if you’re experiencing issues with your appliances due to weather conditions, our experienced team at Academy Plumbing is here to help. We can inspect your appliances, reignite pilot lights, and provide solutions to ensure your appliances remain functional, no matter the weather conditions.
