Don’t Let the Cold Catch You Off Guard
November 10, 2024As the holiday season approaches and you prepare to have visitors over, it’s important to ensure that your home is running smoothly. Here are some plumber’s tips to help you keep everything in order:
- Change your air system filter regularly: In New Mexico, it’s recommended to change your filter every 6-8 weeks to protect the life of your equipment. This helps prevent dirt from accumulating on sensitive components and causing damage.
- Cover outdoor water faucets: Use insulated caps for your faucets to help prevent pipe bursts. These caps help keep the pipes warmer and slow down the entry of cold air under your home.
- Turn off your sprinkler system / un-hook garden hoses: With freezing temperatures on the horizon, it’s crucial to turn off your sprinkler system. A frozen system can lead to costly repairs and damage.
PRO TIP: Now, let’s talk about decorations. When retrieving your holiday decorations from storage, be sure to check for spiders, especially under the house. In certain areas, like ours, black widow spiders can be abundant. Take precautions to ensure everyone’s safety.
