            Water Heater Maintenance

Water heaters are an essential part of our daily lives, often working quietly in the background to provide us with hot showers, clean dishes, and more. However, like any home appliance, they require regular maintenance to ensure optimum performance and longevity. At Academy Plumbing, we understand the importance of a well-maintained water heater, and today, we’re sharing expert advice on how to keep yours in top shape.

            Why Maintenance Matters

Regular water heater maintenance can extend the life of your unit, improve its efficiency, and prevent costly repairs or replacements. A poorly maintained water heater may not heat water as efficiently, leading to higher energy bills, or worse, it could fail entirely, leaving you with a cold shower and a big bill.

Here are some tips from our professionals at Academy Plumbing:

            1. Regular Inspections

Inspect your water heater regularly for any signs of leaks or rust. Both of these can be early indicators of potential problems. If you notice anything unusual, it’s best to call a professional right away.

            2. Drain and Flush the Tank

Over time, sediment can build up in your water heater tank, which can cause it to work harder and reduce its efficiency. Draining and flushing the tank at least once a year can help remove this sediment. However, be careful doing this task yourself as the water can be extremely hot. WATER HEATER SERVICE

            3. Test the Pressure Relief Valve

The pressure relief valve is a safety feature that releases pressure when it gets too high. To test it, simply lift the valve halfway, let it snap back, and watch for a burst of water into the overflow drainpipe. If it doesn’t release water, it’s time to replace the valve.

            4. Insulate the Heater

Insulating your water heater and the pipes can help keep the heat in, reducing energy usage and saving you money. You can find water heater blankets and pipe insulation at most home improvement stores.

            5. Adjust the Temperature

Lowering your water heater’s temperature to 120 degrees Fahrenheit can reduce energy usage and prevent scalding. However, before adjusting, ensure it’s safe for your household’s hot water needs.

Remember, while these tips can help maintain your water heater, it’s always best to call in a professional for more complex tasks or if you’re unsure about something. At Academy Plumbing, our team of experienced professionals is always ready to help with your plumbing needs.

Regular maintenance not only extends the life of your water heater but also ensures you have a steady supply of hot water when you need it. So, take the time to care for your water heater, and it will continue to serve you well for years to come.
